Autumn Newsletter 2013

Sorry ladies it has been awhile since we have written a newsletter, we have been busy stocktaking and unpacking boxes of new products to put on the shelves. So if you haven’t been into the shop for a while do come in and have a look at all the new fabrics that have been coming in. They are all beautiful and waiting to be put into a lovely quilt.

Julie and I have been busy these last few weeks putting together our next BOM, Cinderberry’s ‘Tail feathers’, a lovely quilt featuring stitchery’s of birds, with a small amount of appliqué. We have chosen a fabric range called sentiments by 3 sisters. We hope to have it sewn up soon. Below is a sneak peak at the centre block, it’s just lovely! Places will be limited so if you are interested give us a call.

We have also been finalising our winter class list as well. We plan to do a needle case by ‘the Birdhouse’ (see photo below), which can be made into any fabric choice you like, we have used brown and blue to go with the colours of the stitchery. This class is scheduled to run on June 20th and 27th, again if you are interested give us a call as places will be limited. We also have two projects by House on the Hill planned, the ‘Tea garden’ wall hanging and ‘Days in Provence’ a small patchwork and stitchery quilt; these will be run in July and August. Plus we have our regular stitch n’ sew classes running every Friday morning 10-12 (in term time), the cost is $5 per class and bookings are required as we have limited classroom space. All of these classes with photos will be up on our blog site soon.

As I mentioned before we have had a lot of new fabrics come in over the last month and some exciting new projects that we are working on in the studio. So it’s going to be a busy winter. So with this in mind we have decided to hold an open evening on Monday 17th June between 7-9pm. Everyone is welcome and we are offering 15% off all our fabrics and patterns on that night, so come in and stock up for winter.

Well that’s about all we have time for now, I’m sure I’ve missed out plenty, so do come in and see us soon. We are sure to have a suitable project or two to keep you busy over the winter.

Happy sewing and stitching

Kelly & Julie.

Our new bom (block of the month) is coming along nicely, the colours look great and we hope to have this quilt completed soon. It is an older Cinderberry pattern featuring birds (robins) so we have picked a lovely Christmas fabric to compliment the theme. So if your interested please give us a call and we will put your name down on our list. This bom will have a limited number of cuts due to the availability of the fabric, so be in quick.

Hello Fellow Stitchers

I hope you have all had a great holidays. We have been closed over the holiday season to give us time to enjoy the school holidays with our young families. I can’t believe how fast the holidays have flown by. Unfortunately there was very little time for stitching or creating so we are looking forward to getting back in to the swing of things.

There are currently two spaces left for our block of the month  Journey of a Quilter by Leanne’s House. This is at the very reasonable price of $35 a month for ten months. This can be viewed on our blog or our facebook page.http://www.facebook.com/CalicoDreamsNZ.

We also have the above kit at $93.50, Meadowlark by Gail Pan. Using Lynette Anderson fabrics. This kit is available now. It is a small wall quilt done in beautiful muted blues, browns and creams.

If you are into pretty then take a look at Pretty Dresses wall hanging kit $97.50. This is created in pretty greens pinks and white and would look stunning in any little girls or not so little girls bedroom. This sample was stitched by Jane and it now hangs in her daughters room.

We have also had new fabrics arrive which will be out on the shelves soon so if you have a little bit of spare time call in for a chat or a look around. We would love to see you all and will be back soon to let you know what else has arrived in store. Above is a sample of a quilt backing fabric (fernbacker), its 270cm wide and comes in this lovely colour which will blend nicely with most other fabrics. Also showing is two new fabrics that have arrived in the last week, incense & peppermint, beautiful florals at $28/m.

We hope you have had the chance to sit and create and would love to see or hear what you have been up to. We are back to our normal hours from Wednesday 30th January. Our hours are Wednesday to Friday 9am to 3pm or by appointment.

The Rakaia Community Craft Group are also planning on holding their monthly craft group on the second Thursday of the month at the church hall opposite the Rakaia Mobil Garage from 10am till 2pm. All are welcome to come and go as suits your day. Any enquiries ring Julie on 3020783 or 0276342525.

Well take care everyone. We hope you find the time to sit and relax with a little bit of stitching. Hope to see you all soon.

Kind regards

Kelly and Julie

Posted on by admin / Posted in Blog | Comments Off on Our doors are opening again…..

Just a quick note to say we are opening the doors again on Wednesday January the 30th, we have both had a great break over the summer and are ready to begin the year again. We have had some lovely ranges of fabric arrive in over the summer months and they will go out onto the shelves next week. So if you need an outing after the kids go back to school come in and see us, we look forward to seeing all our old friends again and hopefully meet some new ones too.

Below is a photo of our pretty dresses kit, we have two left. They are so pretty and easy to do. This one was made by Jane, she has chosen to hang it in her daughter’s room on a bamboo hanger. It does look stunning all in pink and soft green.

We’ll see you next week.

Happy stitching

August Newsletter

Posted on by admin / Posted in Newsletters | Comments Off on August Newsletter

Well Hello Ladies,

Sorry, but it has been a while since our last newsletter. We have been very busy unpacking parcels of new fabrics. It’s so exciting to see the fabrics finally arriving and filling up the shelves. We have been waiting for some of them since February and don’t always remember exactly what we did order. It has also great over the last few days to finally see some sunshine. It certainly lifts the spirits and increases the motivation.

Above is a lovely sepia range it features lots of little children at play. It comes as a panel with co-ordinating fabrics.

Recent arrivals are some new Marg Lowe patterns featuring a few of her Christmas designs. Some of these are quick and simple, just great for the busy lady. Also arriving soon are some Gail Pan designs. Recent fabric arrivals include Lynette Anderson’s, Hollyhock Cottage range. These are in blue and brown tones and just gorgeous.

Anni Down’s Christmas time range has also just arrived, including her Christmas panel. We also stock a range of her patterns and notepads.

We are also quite excited about putting together our first Block of the Month. We have chosen Leanne’s House, Journey of a Quilter. We are mainly using Rosies Love Letters fabric, which are pretty florals in pinks, greens and cream tones. Here is a sneak preview of one of the blocks. There will be a limited number of cuts. We are in the early stages of this. If you are interested in this BOM please call in or contact us and we can put your name down on the list. We will contact you closer to the time so you can confirm if you would like to be part of this. We have kept the number of cuts small this time as it is our first attempt at a BOM.

Many of our Christmas fabrics have finally arrived and we are slowly building up our range of basics so if you haven’t been in for a while come on in for a look and a chat. We would love to see you. Enjoy the fresh air and sunshine.

Happy Stitching

Kelly and Julie

New Patterns

Posted on by admin / Posted in Blog | Comments Off on New Patterns

Topiary Trio, Pattern #14.

The first of our new patterns is called Topiary Trio, it is very traditional, featuring a rose, lavender and daisy topiary bush. These can be framed as we have done over canvas boards or framed in a lovely shabby chic or wooden frame, we also think they would suit a cushion cover.

Floral Bouquet, Pattern #15

The second of our patterns is called floral bouquet and is a beautiful stitchery created using a variety of stitches from french knots to bullion. We have chosen to frame this one. This would also look lovely stitched on a different background fabric using darker DMC colours.

Both of these patterns are available now, so pop into see us if your interested. We also have a number of craft shops who also stock our patterns so check out the list on our retailers page.

We have just had a big change around in store so come in and have a look, you may just be inspired.

Happy crafting,

Kelly & Julie.

June 2012 Newsletter

Posted on by admin / Posted in Newsletters | Comments Off on June 2012 Newsletter

Welcome to the second newsletter of the year. We hope you are all surviving the cold weather and keeping cosy and warm indoors. It has been lovely to see some new faces the past few weeks, all stocking up on winter projects to stitch by the fire at night.

We’ve had some more pretty fabrics trickle through, some lovely spots and stripes (as seen in the photos below). Pictured sitting on the red and blue ticking is Milo our shop mouse, he was made last week using a pattern that we found in a magazine. Let’s just say he has taught us the meaning of patience, laughter and mistakes. We have learnt a lot from making Milo, he was a lot of fun and we have a few more sitting on the table at work to complete.

We have just compiled our class list for term three, we will have limited spaces in these classes so if you are interested be in quick! All details will be posted on our blog site next week, www.calicodreamsnz.wordpress.com.
Class List term 3
*Country Cushion Thurs July 26th
*Needle n’ pins pincushion Wed Aug 8th
*Cupcake pincushion (from a pattern by Cindy Taylor Oates) Thurs 23rd Aug
*Floral Bouquet (stitched heart) Wed 5th September
*Christmas tags & cards, date to be confirmed.
If anyone has any idea of what they would like to learn as a class please give us a call or drop us an email at calicodreams.jk@gmail.com, we will do our best to help you or find someone who can.

We also do one on one teaching, so if you or someone you know is interested in learning how to cross stitch/stitch we can arrange a time that suits to do this. Pictured is one of our lovely cross stitches we have for sale at the studio, this is of the Christchurch cathedral, it comes as a kit and can be stitched on aida cloth or linen, a lovely memory to hang on the wall once complete.

Anyway we must dash and get some more stitching done before the day ends.

Happy sewing

Kelly & Julie.

We have been busy at the Studio this week working on our class list for next term. We have a few lovely classes lined up, so please keep an eye out for details as they appear, numbers will be limited so it will pay to register early if you wish to attend.

We have also been working on our “weekend wonder” kits, small projects that can be worked on in a just a few hours, hence the name weekend wonders. Sometimes we just don’t have the time to complete big projects but also want a sense of acheivement in our week, these are perfect as they are able to be completed in an hour or two. We hope to have a few to pick from, our first being a pincushion with a lovely small stitchery in its centre. The cost for these small kits is $10 and they contain everything to make up the cushion but the fibre fill. Lovely as a gift or for your own sewing room.

Photographed today is one of our handmade lavender hearts, a perfect little gift for that someone special, Mum, Grandma, Auntie, sister, daughter or friend. These are only $8.50 and smell divine. Christmas is almost here…..

Posted on by admin / Posted in Blog | Comments Off on Christmas is almost here…..

Christmas is almost upon us! and as you can see from the photo we have our tree up and decorated. We have chosen to cover it with handmade decorations this year (plus a few bought). It looks great in our window and we have had some lovely comments about it.

We have been busy at the studio lately with our new craft group up and running on Friday mornings, we have met some lovely local ladies that are passionate about their craft. We have also had our christmas bauble class this week, it was a fun morning with lots of laughs, all of the ladies completed their baubles,  they were also very keen to go home and make more. This class will run again next year, most likely in winter, we will keep you informed as to when.

As you can see we have a lovely range of handmade giftware in, if you are looking for a baby gift we have a local lady who knits for us, she has a beautiful range of booties available at good prices. We also have a large range of lavender bags and sachets, always an easy gift to post, featured are our lavender hanky sachets, they smell divine and look lovely too. So if you are looking for a last minute gift do come and see us, we would love to meet you.

Until next time happy stitching.

Julie & Kelly.

Christmas is coming…..

Posted on by admin / Posted in Blog | Comments Off on Christmas is coming…..

As you can see we are starting to get our Christmas decorations up at the studio. We have had fun making these quick and easy little felt Christmas stockings. They look very effective hanging from the mantle piece or on your Christmas tree. A great place to hide little Christmas treats too.

Lately we have had many people popping into the studio, now the warmer weather has appeared. It is always fun chatting to fellow stitchers and finding out what they are creating at the moment. So do come and see us, we are not far from the main road and we are always happy to meet new people.

This Friday morning we are starting our first craft group with people bringing their own projects to work on. The criteria is that they wear a smile and also bring fun and laughter with them leaving their troubles at the door.( Just kidding!!). We are looking forward to seeing what everyone is working on, it should be a good morning.

Until next time happy stitching

Kelly and Julie
